It was the advent of the second plane, sharking in low over the Statue of Liberty: that was the defining moment. Until then, America thought she was witnessing nothing more serious than the worst aviation disaster in history; now she had a sense of the fantastic vehemence ranged against her.
- Martin Amis, The Second Plane
Denial is an instinctive reaction to the most traumatic events in life. When someone dies, we tell ourselves it could be mistaken identity or that perhaps there is some small chance of them having survived whatever occurred.
So people do the same when they see an awful event on the news. Many sunk into denial as they first thought that the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 must have been an accident and then later this denial manifested itself in thinking that it could also be even an inside job, perpetrated by the US government against their own citizens. Both were understandably motivated by seeking a sense of comfort amidst such overwhelming chaos in a well ordered and pampered Western society.
Martin Amis wrote about this when he wrote the above quote, recalling his sense of dread and doom at seeing the second plane on that September morning, when he knew that its arrival heralded the beginning of something altogether more horrible than the petty car bombing terrorism of the past. This was global. This was apocalyptic. This was Jihad.
Some, like Barack Obama, still refuse to acknowledge that this is happening, hence why the world has gone to the toilet since he took over as President. It is far easier for him to confront things like state sanctioned same-sex marriage, misguided avenues towards equality for African-Americans and abortion. Why? Because the mob says so. He only voiced his support for state sanctioned same-sex marriage when he saw the big money connected with it. He is not alone, the entire citizenry of the Western world it appears are unwilling to recognise that ISIS are crucifying, beheading and raping people en masse. Never again, was supposed to be the raison d'etre of the European Union and United Nations after World War II. The same problem has persisted, the Enlightenment and all of its misguided notions that man is the one to solve problems that originate from man.
Spiritually, the world has been deflated and disorientated by the fall of the Catholic Church since the 1960s. Not just because of the maniacal Vatican II and subsequent insanity in destroying the sacredness of the holy sacrifice of the Mass (and everything else) but also because of the numerous abuse scandals, incompetent priests and a widespread ignorance and apathy towards saving souls from hell on behalf of priests, bishops and nuns. This has been filled by a vacuous egocentric secularism which has engulfed the West, to the point that it is altering the laws of countries, from Masonic America to once Catholic Ireland.
Physically and politically, the rise of Islamism after 9/11 and its subsequent wars has been a threat that has hung over the entire globe for the first 15 years of the 21st century. Often mocked for his Mission Accomplished gaffe, even George Bush would have struggled to have the lack of foresight shown by Obama when he said, We're leaving behind a sovereign, stable and self reliant Iraq with a representative government that was elected by its people. We're building a new partnership between our nations and we are ending a war not with a final battle but with a final march toward home. This is an extraordinary achievement. From Iraq to Syria to France and England, these barbarians, morphing into deadlier and deadlier forms each day,
|Radical Islamists are forbidden from eating pork or drinking alcohol, but evidently snorting cocaine and shooting innocent people dead is an act of admirable quality.|
At the heart of both, a sickness that stops people from calling a spade a spade. When that second plane emerged on that clear September morning, Amis recognised it for what it was and hid no more. Refused to drape a blanket of feigned ignorance over his intellect.
When Pope Francis declared, We must be brothers. The problem is lobbying by this orientation, or lobbies of greedy people, political lobbies, Masonic lobbies, so many lobbies, nobody seemed to identify that here was the Pope acknowledging that there were Masons and homosexuals in the Church seeking to alter it towards their own ends. When he manufactured a farcical Synod to undermine the Church's authority, some took notice. But surely now, as Christians are being slaughtered across the world, it is his choice to release an encyclical based on ecology that makes the penny drop for people who had not been paying attention to this incompetent papacy up until now.
This week was a watershed for this social media driven mass delusion. The same Barack Obama who once accused people from poorer backgrounds of clinging to 'guns and religion' (we'll assume he wasn't talking about the high crime and high church attendance of African-Americans) showed up in Charleston and sang Amazing Grace. Meanwhile, as a wretch like him sung about being saved, the Supreme Court passed a law legalising state sanctioned same-sex 'marriage' across the United States, enabled by 'Catholic' lawmakers. On the same day, British and Irish tourists were brutally murdered by a drugged up ISIS recruit in Tunisia. On the same day, a Mosque in Kuwait was blown up by a suicide bomber linked to ISIS. On the same day, a suspected militant from ISIS beheaded a French factory worker, scrawled some Arabic nonsense on it, and placed it on display outside the factory, after a selfie.
|Gay at last, gay at last...thank God almightayyy we gay at last|
All of this, a culmination to the week where Pope Francis, the successor the Saint Peter had spoken to the world and with gusto, with the role anointed upon him by Christ, with the whole world attentive to his concerns, stated that Many specialists agree on the need to give priority to public transportation.
Yet, most of these stories are forgotten about, mere days after they occured. Greece's economy collapsing has already replaced them in the unreal virtual city of trending and rising topics.
Just as the world shuddered when it saw the second plane herald the arrival of a new force for evil in the world, so too should we shudder at the destruction of marriage in Ireland and the United States, the physical destruction of Christians in the East and the spiritual destruction of Christians in the West. Most of all, we should shudder at the reaction of Barack Obama, Pope Francis and David Cameron. The first two offered mere condolences, Cameron became irate saying that the attacks had nothing to do with Islam!
Obama can sing Amazing Grace up on that stage (not an altar) and he can dance and party with the LGBT lobby who give him big money. And Francis can take all the photo opportunities and make all of the random phone calls to a baker in Cambodia who wrote a post card saying how his car got fleas all he wants.
ISIS are gaining an influence that is approaching something beyond our control. The secularists are gaining an influence beyond our control. How will we cope with both when they arrive at our door, only God knows.
Obama and Francis are soulmates of the world stage, they have arrived into power for the same reasons and with the same sense of messianic ambition and false humility in mind.
They arrived in power, convinced that theirs were dreams that differed from their rivals and from their predecessors. Their dreams came from reading about Martin Luther King or about Saint Francis. But whereas Martin Luther King was stabbed in the back, was bullied by the FBI, was imprisoned...and whereas Saint Francis walked through fire to convert the Sultan, suffered the stigmata of those who closely identify with Christ and was never far away from total poverty. Where both Obama and Francis hoped to prosper was in showing up to their respective palaces, full of hope and change regarding the ideals that they held dear. The problem being, they held people to be dear and not ideals. They wanted to be someone rather than something. And so, to convince themselves that they are as great as their idols, they have taken up phony causes to pretend that they held a light to these great men. Obama incited racial hatred against white police officers (having to be battling social inequality, for all their flaws) and called two men having sex with each other a civil rights movement. Francis called a Synod in his hopes of imitating John XXIII. Obama clings to the LGBT fantasy about a civil rights movement, Francis clings to a barely defined notion of world dictated spirituality.
These neurotic, self-conscious men remind us of those lines from T.S. Eliot's Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.
No! I am not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be;
Am an attendant lord, one that will do
To swell a progress, start a scene or two,
Advise the prince; no doubt, an easy tool,
Deferential, glad to be of use,
Politic, cautious, and meticulous;
Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse;
At times, indeed, almost ridiculous—
Almost, at times, the Fool.
Like a pair of idle bystanders on that September morning, these men are too busy trying to wish away the first plane to notice the second one. If the two most powerful men in the world cannot even recognise the threat of radical Islam and the tragedy of the destruction of marriage, what real effect can the rest of us hope to have?
Mary, Queen of Peace, Pray for Us. We need it.
